This shift in the market put entirely new demands on employers. The traditional recruitment process, which used to involve choosing the next employee from a large pool of applicants that came in through a job listing, disappeared and was replaced by a much more extensive approach. Instead, employers had to actively try to attract passive candidates: a target group that is much harder to reach, since they are most often already comfortably set at a great job, and have plenty of other options to choose from.
